Pharmacy

The Labette Health pharmacy team is committed to providing safe medication therapy that improves each patient's quality of care. The pharmacy team works closely with the medical and nursing staff to ensure that you receive the best effective medication therapy while working diligently to prevent drug interactions and adverse drug events. The Labette Health pharmacy provides medications for only those patients in the hospital.

Clinical services

The pharmacy team consists of four pharmacists and four technicians. The team provides numerous clinical services. Some of these services include:

  • Medication dosing consults.
  • Renal dosing adjustments.
  • IV to PO conversions.
  • Antibiotic stewardship program.
  • Parenteral nutrition consults.
  • Drug information requests.

Technology

Labette Health utilizes technology to increase patient safety. Some of these include:

  • Omnicell (automated dispensing cabinets)
Medications are stocked in the machines, allowing the nurse to use an ID and fingerprint to access the medications on the nursing units. The Omnicell is linked to the patient's health record so the correct medication is pulled.
  • Bedside medication verification (bedside barcoding)
Computers and scanners are located at each bedside allowing a nurse to match a drug to a patient by scanning a bar code on the medication and a bar code on the patient's wristband. This assures that the five rights of medication administration (right patient, right drug, right dose, right route and right time) are checked electronically before administering medication, preventing the possibility of medication errors.
