Labette Health is excited to offer breast cancer screening with a Selenia® Dimensions® 2D digital mammography system, by Hologic, a leading global healthcare and diagnostics company.

The Selenia Dimensions 2D system offers incredibly sharp breast images, an ergonomic design to provide patient comfort, and a flexible platform designed to support an efficient upgrade pathway to advanced mammography applications.

Digital mammography is different from film-screen mammography in the way the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. The radiologist views the digital images on high resolution monitors which provide the ability to more precisely focus on potential areas of concern. Digital mammography yields high quality images at low radiation dose.

By offering this technology, Labette Health hopes to increase the compliance rate for annual breast cancer screening of women in the area. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman's chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is nearly 100 percent.
