Position Summary: The OB Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Obstetrics Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in compliance with clinical guidelines and hospital policies. This role is responsible for operational management, staff development, budgetary oversight, and adherence to regulatory standards in a PPS hospital environment. The OB Director serves as a key leader in advancing women’s health services, patient safety, and a culture of excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all clinical and operational aspects of the Obstetrics Department, including labor and delivery, postpartum care, and newborn services.
- Ensure compliance with evidence-based practices, federal and state regulations, and accrediting body standards (e.g., The Joint Commission).
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring alignment with the hospital’s financial goals.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including patient volumes, length of stay, and resource utilization, within the PPS reimbursement model.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix to meet patient care demands, including managing recruitment, retention, and scheduling.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
- Oversee the orientation, training, and ongoing education of OB staff to ensure competency in care delivery.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and develop action plans for improvement as needed.
- Partner with hospital leadership to identify opportunities for expanding women’s health services, including community outreach programs and new service lines.
- Monitor trends in obstetric care and adjust department goals to remain competitive and meet the evolving needs of the community.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or completed within 3 years required
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- BLS/NRP required, STABLE/AWHONN BFM preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in obstetrics is required, with at least 3 years in a leadership role preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of perinatal care guidelines, PPS reimbursement models, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive organizational change.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in healthcare technology and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
