Summary:
Staff Education: A professional educator who collaborates with the Labette Health employees and directors in assessing, planning, implementing, providing and evaluating orientation, continuing education and in service education programs at the individual and organizational level. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment. Designs, implements, coordinates, provides, and evaluates specific patient education programs for individuals or group across the continuum of care or at one specific facility or multi site. Provides all basic education to new employees assigned to clinical areas. Works with physicians and providers to develop programs that are needed and award CME credit.This position is also responsible for the development, application and maintenance of a nursing skills lab for new and current employees.
Patient & Diabetes Education: A registered nurse who works with patients to understand programs and treatments options. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs. Responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the DSME program by ensuring that the National Standards (NSDSME) are met and maintained at all times.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.N.) from a four year college (preferable) and successful completion of a prescribed curriculum of study which has led to licensure as a Registered Nurse in Kansas. Electronic clinical documentation experience 2-5 years, or willingness to learn.
QUALIFICATIONS
BSN ( 4 years) in a health care or related field required. Previous patient care clinical experience required (usually 3 years.) Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, federal, state, and local requirements. Previous patient teaching, program planning, experience and adult learning theory desirable (2 years.) Comfortable teaching to large groups. Working knowledge of the use of established clinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical education programs. Technical leadership skills and advanced nursing skills.
