Position Overview:
The Hospital Transcriptionist in the Health Information Department is responsible for transcribing medical dictation, letters, and other recorded data using transcribing, dictating, and word processing equipment. The position ensures accurate and timely transcription of medical documents while maintaining compliance with privacy regulations. This role may be performed in the office or remotely, depending on departmental needs. Additional duties may include monitoring transcription workflow, performing quality assurance checks, and completing birth certificates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transcribe medical dictation, letters, and other recorded data accurately using transcription equipment.
- Review transcriptions for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and consistency with medical terminology.
- Complete and file birth certificates in accordance with hospital and state guidelines.
- Monitor and route dictation to other transcriptionists as needed, ensuring timely completion.
- Conduct quality assurance (QA) checks on transcribed documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with hospital standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth transcription processes.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Credentialing with American Association of Medical Transcriptionists (AAMT) is preferred but not required.
- Five years of hospital transcription experience is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology is necessary.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in transcription equipment, dictation systems, and word processing software.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce error-free work under tight deadlines. .
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
